The Turkish Themed Farmhouse

A farmhouse getaway is like a vacation! Yet one needs to have a decor with which one resonates, carries a sense of belonging and obviously is beautiful and lovely to stay in.

This Turkey inspired farmhouse stands out and has a wow factor. One of it being the Iznik tiles. Original Turkish blue and turquoise tiles are hand painted and are suitable for bathrooms and kitchens as well as for decks, stairs raisers and floors. Here we used these to bring in this Moorish effect! Through out this home they gave an unusual mixture of delicate, ancient and bold graphic patterns that grab attention and provide a luxurious feel.

To get lost inside the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is to immerse yourself in a sea of stalls that offer all kinds of copper, brass, silver and other metal handwork. One sees large decorative platters, tea sets, spa bowls, lamps and lanterns, door handles, etc.  Brass has been on-trend for a long time and even today we believe it is here to stay. Hence we embraced a Turkish character and made interiors of this farmhouse  fresh and sophisticated with a touch of exoticism.

With their geometric designs and sophisticated blue-and-white motifs and brass handles even simple dressers have a power to be transformed into a stylish cabinet upgrading the decor of the rooms.

We also adorned this farmhouse with lamps which play a key role in the decor of this place. This certainly added to the Turkish flair .  This decor would certainly be incomplete without colourful lamps essentially made of glass and metal.

Wall hangings, throws, and table runners again feature heavy thread work and embroidery, each bright enough to act as a highlight. Here we mixed some Indian wall art of Mudras & faces with Antique patchwork  which served as excellent display pieces in a Turkish style decor.

With so many options to choose from, you can easily add a splash of Ottoman influence, this farmhouse can accommodate modular influences, which means you can keep adding touches over the years to ensure this home continues to evolve alongside the travels

Little Girl’s Nursery – Citrusy bright

Citrusy bright, full of cheerful touches, and almost tropical in its sunshiny intensity, here’s a super-colorful bedroom designed by us that gets everything right: cute wall art, well-loved stuffed animals, a bookcase, a quaint colourful play table and chair set. But it’s the greens, sunny yellow, blue and fuchsia pink palette that steals the show. It’s hard to find a better color combo for a little girl’s bedroom.

Not leaving out the functionality of this little room, your daughter’s homework assignments will grow right along with her. Every school-age child needs a desk for study time.

Also, the basic furniture will have no problem handling a more mature palette of brown, and the other accessories can be changed over time as the teen years arrive.

It’s no secret that this little girl’s nursery blooms in green and natural co,ours! The lushness of the plants perched in simple room makes this space look cozy and quirky! The accessories give an upbeat hues making this room not only nature themed but also playful!

Ethnic Home – Blingy, Bright & Bold

Nothing shouts diversity louder than India. The country with its diversity and vibrant colour just invoke an amazing blissful feeling in us. We all know how colourful and spicy the Indian traditions are. So when it comes to interior decors, this is what we implemented in this beautiful home of the Iyers!

There are a lot of ways to decorate homes and a home being a reflection of oneself is the best! This home is decorated with the the collection of beautiful pieces of art and vintage furniture by the Iyers!

Curating an impeccably composed wall with the most intricate art forms from India reflects the opulent culture and heritage of the country! Since the Iyers are ardent collectors of such various forms of art, what fun it was to design a perfect gallery which fits in so well in the living space!

Nothing adds personality and color quite like a gallery wall. We displayed a collection of handmade Indian artwork and added an array of ornate variations of green TV unit and a vintage trunk and a grandfather clock to mix things up!

Pairing a recreated vintage shoe cabinet adorned with antiques crass objects is a true charm to the space! the best part about the brass is that it goes well with all colours so deep distressed green is what we chose for this cabinet! its dressed up with antique knobs and decoratives which adds gravitas to the light-hearted greens!

Whenever we have a vision for a design, we become very impatient to see it complete! An entrance wall of this beautiful space came together with Madhubani Wall art!

Ethnic elements can fit beautifully into any decor. From layering a new decor with old world furniture with pieces of history like these bronze miniatures urns and pots to modern den. This dining are is certainly punctuated with such ethnic accents which makes it vibrant and give it style.

Moving from an ethnic theme, Agneya wanted a little modern touch to his bedroom. We decided to give his space an industrial look! Such a decor exude calm and cool.

The blue and greys with splashes of red show an industrial genre coupled with soft and playful finishes in this kids space…And of course the quirk effect!

Wall paper is also one of the best way to personalize your bedroom, whether you are going for loud graphic patterns or soft subtle florals. When we designed this room, we worked with soothing blues, travel graphic wall paper with a complimenting brown teak wood furniture!

Home Office – Chic & Contemporary

A home office off the living room can be concealed with a pocket door. Grey laminated cabinetry complements the living area finishes but makes the space unique.  A small, quiet, efficient office space for one that is perfect for this dynamic corporate trainer to do some self study while at home.

Though small it has a great deal of natural light and views out the lush trees outside the house.  A pocket door makes the office disappear when it’s time to entertain!

Small yet incredibly functional, this desk space is a comfortable, quiet place to catch up on home reading that she needs to do.

To keep it from feeling cramped or crowded, we complemented warm and cozy seating on the other end of the space. Where sometimes she sits in the comfy built-in chair with her book and relaxes. We added a splash of colour which gives a bit on a whimsy to the corner. She says everytime she sees it, she wants to take her book and settle in there!

While the office was intentionally designed into a tiny nook off the living room, we didn’t want it to feel small for Sayali  to use it. By keeping the base color palette light, taking cabinetry to the ceiling, incorporating open storage and maximizing natural light and a bright colour touch, the space feels cozy, and larger than it actually is.

The Urban Terrace

If you have a home with a terrace – it’s a gift!  One can create styles, with gardens, fountains and seating zones and so on. Here you may spend the most relaxing, wonderful and philosophic moments of your life. If the surrounding nature is picturesque, enjoy a calm dinner with candles; if you live in a big city – the light of the night city would be great! So here is what we created!

Wooden cladding on the ceiling of this terrace,  created warmth and coziness. Set against the neutral tones of slate grey tiles, the ceiling added an element of texture. Another basic design we created was we divided this terrace into zones – one with grey slate tiles and the other with lush green lawn. Each contrasted fantastically with the wooden ceiling and created a natural lounge like look which one would not want to leave!

So on the part of the green, we hung some moody lights  that made this place very inviting. The sound of the fountain adds to peace and quiet of this space. Obviously, we did not forget  the gardening nook and flower beds!  Shashank & Pritma who own this gorgeous space say they spend a lot of their time here! This is also a space where Pritma gets to indulge in her hobby of growing plants and house trees of her choice!

However the other side of the terrace, despite the visual distinction, has sofas and refurbished teak wood chairs, pots and lamps, tables and a beautiful faux pas European window to add that little twist to the terrace.  While the palette is limited to neutral colors, the terrace does not seem monotonous at all. On the contrary, there is a maximum of diversity and dynamics, which was achieved with a combination of different tones and grey, brown and colourful textiles. Potted plants became a great natural accent to compliment the design!

A perfect getaway at home is a best way to feel everyday!

Kid’s Twin Bedroom – The Superhero Décor

After the excitement of designing a beautiful nursery for your little bundle of joy, comes the realization that the ‘baby’ stage has flown by and you now have a toddler on your hands and then those little monster cute kids. Out goes the cot, and in comes a whole new set of needs, and decorative challenges, including a finger-painted feature you hadn’t bargained on. Hence we decided to renovate our twin’s bedroom with a superhero theme…The best part was both my son and daughter love the theme!

super hero posters

Themed roomed interiors sometimes can get tacky and hence the design should be inspiring and not overwhelming. Hence we introduced a superhero vibe by adding accents that make the room look tasteful and if the kids outgrow it, adapting the room will be easy.

Study & Storage

So we started out with basics, we needed a bunk bed so that they get space to move around, they needed a desk, storage, bookshelves and a wardrobe. It was essential for my daughter specially to have things she can climb and hang from. Hence the bunk bed was not just designed to sleep, they gave her the feeling of being a superhero herself. With the lower bunk bed getting pulled out to be a double bed when needed the the upper bed to be the secret get away during the day for the kids, it worked perfect! To add the little glamour and extravagance of the superheros, we framed some posters with their famous quotes and through some cushions to add to the decor of the room.

Next was a desk for the duo with a blue push pin board and now, loads and loads of art work makes it way up there. They have a desk to write and tons of storage which I am proud to say remains clean for most part!

If you are a mum of a superhero to be, encourage them to be confident and fierce. If you say yes to create their space and make it exactly like they need it to be, its a world of inspiration for them. After all, is there anything better than being a sidekick to your own children?!

Twin Bedroom – Superhero Themed Decor in the making….

Quirky Boutique

Sometimes decorating boutiques is so much fun when its fill of creative items you have made for them! The post here is full of how creative Livelywood gets every single time!

It all started with a swivel Persian Trunk which actually is a movable wine cellar!

Then comes the night stand…all black yet has a wine holder in it!

…And how could we miss the wall mirrors? Called it Tashi Delek, inspired by my travel to Sikkim!

Moving on with the delicate Starry Night mounted on the wall of the fashion section of the boutique!

The retro styles of the mirror and yellows of the walls, makes this decor so intriguing!

For people with a passion to read…this red book stand sold off within a few days!

…And neither did this bookshelf stay too long!

GEOMETRY OF A CONTEMPORARY HOME

Every color has a certain impact on a décor. It’s simply a matter of style and looks. A color such as the best of  yellow, for example, is bright and eye-catching and it would be a cheerful addition to a space such as the living room. In this home, a  yellow couch is the centerpiece of the room. The question that remains in a contemporary interior design is “how will you decorate the space around it?” Simple with Greys & Whites!

Well, the options aren’t numerous. One idea we used were prints and patterns on the wall to integrate the yellow sofa into the living room without making it seem out of place. The accent pillows are quirky and fun and they combine well with the yellow on the sofa.

We’ve said this numerous times: yellow and gray are two colors that work beautifully together. They compliment each other nicely. One is fun and vibrant and the other one is dark and neutral. Together they create the perfect balance.

What we enjoy most about this seating area is the way the colors on the abstract wall frames reiterate throughout the space in various forms and blends in nicely.

If you prefer a décor that’s warm, welcoming and elegant without standing out in a bright or opulent way, this tone of yellow seems like a perfect choice, especially in combination with the golden wood finish and the surrounding neutrals. After all that’s a key to contemporary interior design!

But not all yellows have to be that bright and flashy. Mellow tones like greys can be very beautiful as well and they combine well with light wooden surfaces and with other soft colors. A sofa such as this one can be the unexpected touch of color in a neutral décor.yello

A MEDITERRANEAN BLEND

Few design styles capture romantic beauty, images of idyllic seaside retreats, sparkling white sand and plenty of sunshine like the Mediterranean. Inspired by the region, its unique blend of cultures and rich heritage, modern Mediterranean style is in reality a fusion of the best elements borrowed from Spain, Italy, Greece and other North African nations that were closely linked to France. And while most often the idea of Mediterranean interiors instantly takes us to secretive, secluded courtyards and airy terrace spaces overlooking the distant coastline, it is indeed a perfect theme for the serene and stylish bedroom.

The poster bed with its whites balance out the loud green and yet give a spark with its pinks and floral curtain. It certainly keeps the room busy, yet as cozy and lovely as ever!

A dramatic work space was created along the side wall with a book shelf to accommodate a huge book collection they had.

Home Office Collection

Study room are more functional in wider areas, but it doesn’t mean that they do not fit with homes having small spaces. In fact you can still create a study area in the same place where your bedroom is. The main characteristic of a perfect study room are: cozy desk and chairs which if possible should be placed near windows or under light fixtures.

Lawyer’s Office

When determining how your new office should be laid out, it’s important to keep your business’s objectives in mind. This is particularly true in law offices, where the nature of the work can often breed stress and chaos if not managed correctly especially when this office was of a retired lawyer who worked because he loved his work.  This way the office has a uniform look while also being inviting and more home-like. The overall imagine is rather abstract. It’s also clean, simple and also personalized in the same time.

Writer’s Den

The daily routine of commuting to an office may halt for most of us on the weekends, but work responsibilities often spill over into home life as well.  Some people have one thing in common: a sophisticated home office secluded from domestic distractions.

The desk is made of solid wood and the beauty of the teak is complemented by the lamp. All these details go in perfect harmony with the zebra patterned rug that covers the floor and the  high chair. The rug comes in contrast with the rest of the room that is serene and calm and is a  source of inspiration. It is the detail that makes a room interesting instead of being boring.

Textured walls and ribbed ceiling lamp compliments the bright paintings bought from Vietnam help the room look vibrant yet soothing for this writer to concentrate on his work!
